You will develop services that are foundational to our core product
offerings and business operations. You will help design and implement all
our foundational systems. You know and care about REST principles and
building scalable systems. Our backend is PostgreSQL containing both
structured and unstructured data.
We're looking for 3-5+ years of experience architecting and building
services and systems in Java with more than 10 million interactions a year.
Not required but good to have:
- Understanding of Node.js, asynchronous systems, Docker and
infrastructure as code.
- We’re building from the ground up. We’re reimagining processes and
products. Our overarching definition of done is a high-value system in
production. Some MVPs replace existing processes, but more elegantly, as an
extensible platform for future product offerings. Other MVPs bring
something brand new into existence. We’re solving complex interactions
between a human-based inspection process, captured in a client based app,
driven by a series of services, databases and business rules –in a
continually evolving landscape. The fundamental shift driving our work is
the migration of wholesale secondary car sales from physical auctions to
the purely digital. We are the engineers and designers of the digital
product that will be bought and sold.
- This is a start-up operation within an existing enterprise. Our
leadership is committed to driving change and innovation. They walk the
walk, dedicating resources and top level support. Our team is an eclectic
group of individuals bound together by the love of exploration, learning
and applied problem solving. We come from different backgrounds, all of us
outsiders to the industry. But, we’ve been empowered from the top down and
with tremendous ground level support, to help redefine an entire industry.
- *Ecosystem*very early in being defined.
- Spring and Hibernate, Node.js with Express, PostgreSQL, Android
SDK, Java on Android and Ionic/Angular.js. All choices have been
driven by
developer preferences.
- We’re architecting for micro-services.
- We use Jira, Bitbucket and an evolving set of testing tools.
- We use tools like Docker and Beanstalk/Ansible to quickly
create/destroy environments for both local dev and AWS.
Skills & Requirements
- Key traits we are looking for are outstanding communication, continual
learning, project/task focus, self-starter and intellectual honesty.
- Experience with test driven development is a real plus but not
necessary.
- You will be empowered, as a skilled professional to choose and
implement the most effective, elegant design and solution.
- You are a master of rapidly developing prototype solutions that bring
value to stakeholders and which pave the path for the next iteration.
- You have experience but can see things with fresh eyes.
- You are excited to work on a fresh project without preconceived
constraints and can balance that with the wisdom of experience.
- This is a Test Driven Development environment.
- The tests you write become the framework for the next iterations.
- You are responsible for continual delivery of value to our
stakeholders and to each of us on the team.
