Ok, if you are wanting to get the messages from the server, you need
to do this in your ~/.vm file and it should be fine.

(setq vm-spool-files'("pop:server-name:110:pass:isp-user-name:isp-user-password"))
(setq vm-auto-get-new-mail time-in-seconds-between-checks-for-new-mail)

This should allow vm to get your messages from a pop3 server.

Hope this helps.
