No, that's not a stupid question at all. I got my most recent
emacspeak by doing the following commands as root:
cd <some directory where you want to download the file to>
wget http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/emacspeak/emacspeak-22.tar.bz2
tar -jxvf emacspeak-22.tar.bz2
cd emacspeak-22.0
make
make config
make install
If you're wanting to use Flite, you'll need to replace your
/etc/emacspeak.conf file with a different one. I lost the original url
where I got the correct emacspeak.conf file from for use with Flite, but
I have copied it to www.terrencev.net/emacspeak.conf .
