Ok, here we have it. Thanks for the support. This is what I was talking about.
Because of using msmtp, I have managed to get all three of the mail clients: mutt, pine, and emacs-vm to work. Each of the programs can fetch or at least access mail on its own and the only connection to the outside world we need of course, is to send mail. Msmtp solved this problem. I have never been able to configure one of those other programs to send mail. This was the reason for the smtpmail stuff in the .emacs file. If the large program, whichever one it might be, exim4, postfix, qmail, sendmail, ur smail worked properly, without so much configuration, that noone really would work with setting it up unless he were the systems administrator in a large organization, then, we would not be sitting here, having this discussion This program not only solved the problem with the google mail server, but it also can help someone who has never gotten a mail client he wants to use, working. What I have learned after 20 years and almost 10 months of using computers, is that, in order to get it to work, you have to set it up the best way you can. Different solutions, I guess, work for different people. This has taken quite a few hours of research, and I am more than happy to stand by it. It works. I am sorry to express what seems to be some kind of opinion that is contrary to your philosophy. They only thing I can say is this. You can try the settings I have in there, but you don't have to take off any programs that seem to be something you don't need. Hope this helps. -- Doug Smith: C.S.F.C. Computer Scientist For CHRIST!
