Brian,
The current status is that the code has been written (quite a long time ago in fact) to support JSR-168. Presentation Server even comes with its own simple JSR-168 portal, used to run the examples.
But testing with the reference implementation (Pluto) or other portals has not been done, and we do know that some users encountered problems with some portal servers. We expect that work would be needed in the following areas to really claim JSR-168 support:
1. Bring JSR-168 support to compliance and test with Pluto, JetSpeed 2, and WebLogic Portal.
2. Documentation, in particular, detailing how to deploy Presentation Server applications as portlets.
3. Possibly, expose more of the JSR-168 API to Presentation Server applications. Presentation Server does its best not to require changes between an application running in a Servlet environment and a Portlet environment, but the Portlet environment provides enhanced services like access to preferences.
