BTW, your old competitor Cocoon has a XHTML serializer :-) ...
But does it do what you think it does? The doc here:

just says that it outputs XHTML. I take it that it just outputs the correct DOCTYPE ("As XHTML serializer uses the XML serializer internally"...).
So I am not impressed ;-)
