There is one jar provided by some other vendor that needs to be shared
across different EARs. I cannot disable it. This jar contains some java
pass-through classes to C++ code. I am not sure why would it cause problems
running OXF framework classes.

Kris,
Since you have this problem with the second EAR you access, it looks like
there is some sharing of classes going on between the two EARs. Is your
WAS configured to share classes between EARs, and if it is the case, can
you disable this?
