I have always had the greatest respect for Dr. Grove so I hope he won't mind
if I make two observations. Firstly, a previous Vice President who was
passed over was Joe Meador. Although no-one could have known and I'm sure
none of the present V P's have any skeletons in their closets, Joe Meador
had, as an Army officer in World War Two, had been a bit light-fingered.
Seems some looted German antiquities found their way back to his home in
Texas. Fortunately when it hit the papers, the worst they could say was that
he had been a former VP of the American Orchid Society.

Secondly, I had not realized that a lot of the alternate slate group's
invective had been directed at Jim Rassman. It may be good to remind
everyone that he has merely regained the position on the proposed official
list of nominees that he would have had if he had not been dropped by the
previous Nomination Committee. However, like the late, great Don Herman, Jim
took this setback graciously and has returned wiser and stronger. A lesson
for others perhaps?
