I don't think moss is that great of an idea, it seems to hold too much moisture, at least for me up in the soggy 'wet' coast of Canada. I use big pieces of lava rock for mine and they seem to grow fine. I use a single layer, mostly to hold the plant down, and soak the pant once a day for about 1 minute. My Aerides and Neofinetia seem to like this as well.
On another topic...has anyone on the list had to deal with flat mites? I've got them, mostly on my Oncidiums and Dendro's. I try not to use chemicals, but...
