I was responding to Hello Mark, Global warming isn't the problem, the problem is that the people who are in charge have a different agenda and priority. Alltough scientists find it rather difficult to come up with a solid pointer to the fact it is happening (the majority of the research has a statistical component that leaves interpreters with uncertanties) there are a lot of "small pointers" that don't seem to find attention (phenology; movement of plant, insect, land- and sea animal habitats; insurance-companies are seriously raising their costs; ...) I hope I don't come over as one of those pessimistic "told you so" backseat drivers. My personal feelings on the event are rather opposite: if global warming is gonna give us trouble, it's simply because humanity as a species is less smart than it thinks it is. I partially disagree with Fredrick that "We're not in charge, nature is." While nature in the end will have the final say, we do have control over the choices we make which can directly influence the environmental consequence caused by our actions. While global warming is happening and we are definitely contributing to it and maybe the cause, we don't know the full ramifications of what we are doing. The analogy of people chopping down trees on a mountainside without thinking or understanding about the consequences, or in the belief that a landslide will somehow be avoided is I feel appropriate for global warming.
