In my linguistic readings I learned that a "pidgin" is any contact language which mixes vocabulary from two unrelated languages with little formal grammar. It can evolve in complexity with time, even acquiring a grammar and thereby becoming a "creole." I had no idea there was any pejorative connotation of pidgins such as the NG variety. What is the NG pidgin word for "orchid?" Bert Pressman
