The seller does not appear to be familiar with either horticultural names in common use, or formal taxonomy in the genus Paphiopedilum.
Paph. platyphyllum might be the name of the plant that you have in mind that was recently described and upgraded to specific status; it is also if I remember correctly the plant Paph stonei var latifolium 'Ruth Kennedy' which received an award from the AOS (ages ago) and which was used in some crosses, which were accorded names as if this parent were a true Paph stonei, which it is most definitely not. Paph platyphyllum has overall paler flowers, much wider leaves, more pendant petals, larger growth habit than does a true Paph stonei. Other important taxinom. differences as well. I believe you are correct that Paph palawanense was an informal term used to describe perhaps by Rands a small var. of Paph. philippinense from the Palawan Islands. I'll attach a jpg of a close up of a flower of Paph. platyphyllum (note that the 'warts' actually are nearly perpendicular to the petal!) and see if I have one of the entire inflorescence -----thousands that I haven't logged, so I may not find it. Maybe you can do a google search and find an image of one?
