I am at present looking into Wilhelm Micholitz and his collection of Cymbidium sanderae a century ago. There is not much literature about on Micholitz, but I have recently seen that there is a German book out dealing with 8 plant hunters including Micholitz: Kej Hielscher & Renate H|cking's Pflanzenjdger - In fernen Welten auf der Suche nach dem Paradies. (2002). From the critiques I have read in machine translated German, I gather that much of the section on Micholitz deals with his employer, Frederick Sander. This makes me think that the main source of info for this portrait has been Arthur Swinson's wonderful book: Frederick Sander - Orchid King; which would mean that getting this new book would be a waste of time (aside from the fact that I can't read German). I was wondering whether anyone has this book and whether they could look at the bibliography for me; to see what source material the authors have used regarding Micholitz.
My previous request on this forum; for a scan of the Lindenia plate of Cymbidium zaleskianum, was promptly answered by Peter Fowler of the UK, and I take this opportunity to thank him again. My work on this Cymbidium name has been completed and is available at http://www.geocities.com/pennypoint9/zaleski/main.html for those with an interest in the history of Cymbidium and Cym. species.
