They are simply doing the same thing they have been doing all along. Policing the world ... and then they wonder why some don't like them and do nasty things. But if someone says so, as I do right now, he gets flamed, kicked and is regarded to be anti-USADate: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 17:15:23 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I was just reading the posting by Kay Barrett in Vol. 6, Issue 255, in which it stated that " According to the Indictment and statements in Court, Arias made several shipments of orchids to his co-conspirator, Norris, between January of 1999 and October of 2003. Arias would obtain a CITES permit for the shipment from Peruvian authorities, with whom he had a long-standing relationship, authorizing the export of certain numbers of artificially-propagated specimens of particular species of orchids. Arias would then include in the shipment specimens of species not included on the CITES permit. Norris and Arias admitted by their pleas that to conceal their illegal activity, they would falsely label the protected species as a species included on the permit."
If this is the case, no crime was committed in this country bu Arias - it was committed in Peru. Why is he being prosecuted in this country for a crime committed in Peru? This country has no juridiction to take action against someone who commits a crime outside this country. Just what game is the government trying to pull here? Anybody have comments on this?
Maybe some US-Americans (and I explicitly do not say _all_) should spend some time reflecting about the fact that the world does not end at the US borders and that one cannot go around propagating "US religion, US way of life, US law [whatever that may be]" etc without getting criticised. It is time the US Citizens get treated at Frankfort Airport (or at Paris or London or wherever) the way we Europeans get treated when we arive in the USA. And by the way, English is not the only language in the world.
Now, I know that you, Carson, knows that, and many US Americans I know also know all this, but lots don't or don't want to know these things ... One of the problems is that Newscasts over her have at least 50% international news ... and that the entire world knows about Guantanamo bay and the behaviour of American troops in Iraque and elsewhere ...
And those who want to write a reply with "no politics please" ... know that I will tell them to go fly a kite ... "The Ugly American" has been back for a while. But big parts of the US population has not realised it.
