I'd never heard of cernua being found at higher altitudes nor of its being a cool grower - always that it was the exception to the general Sophronitis rule. I can't grow S. coccinea, mantiqueriae, etc. to save my life, so it certainly doesn't appear to *need* similar conditions. Maybe it is one of those rare (and wonderful!) plants that are just relatively indifferent to temperature. In answer to the earlier post re growth rate, it's not especially fast per se, and the growth is very seasonal, but once it gets going it will start to branch and does end up spreading out quite a bit after a few years - don't put it on too small a mount.
