Oh well, I was going to announce it anyway, but I simply can't resist making the most of the opportunity that Andy Easton has just handed me.
In OGD V6 #287, Easton said : "I've never met Peter O'Byrne ... " and "I accept Peter O'Byrne has some useful field knowledge of orchids in SE Asia but as he is not a trained taxonomist that knowledge is of limited use to serious orchidists." I'm inviting everyone to check the following link, which I think offers a more than adequate riposte: http://www.orchidspng.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?6/5960 To put this discovery in context, there have only been 3 other new Vanda species discovered since 1930, and none in the last 20 years ! So, Andy, please enlighten us all ..... what has your most significant contribution to serious orchidology been ? Other than playing politics at AOS (yawn) and using the web to rubbish people you've never met ?
