Message 9: humidifiers. Scott, I had a bad experience with a humidifier, which is/was made in the US. It was called 'Herrmidifier". It came with its own plastic tubing as recommended for connection to the mains water supply. It worked pretty well for two summers, then the tubing sprang a leak, which shorted out all the home power supply to the hot house. (I was away for two days at the time) On that summers day, the temperature in the orchid house reached 45 deg Celsius. Some species died as a result, and other rare and valuable species have taken two years to recover. Other growers have told me that I had chosen an "expensive" solution to the humidity problem, and recommended a balanced plate switch, which turns on micro water sprays when water has evaporated on a "balanced plate". I believe these are commercially available, and I know of one medium sized commercial nurseryman who used this type of system in his business. Hope this is helpful Paul
