I noticed on Kelvin's listing of national/city/etc.
official flowers that C. trianae is mentioned as an
Appendix I plant. I believe that I may have a few
other plants on this list, as well. I did not import
them, or collect them, or smuggle them into the
country in my panties. In fact, re: the trianae, our
orchid society had a workshop wherein we divided a
hugely overgrown C. trianae, and each carried home a
division.
Are we now a gang of criminals? What is the legal
status of possessing a listed plant? I'm sure I cannot
prove where or how I acquired most of my plants.
Without re-opening the whole CITES debate, could
someone familiar with this in theory and fact explain
how possessing an Appendix I plant would affect a
hobbyist? Thanks so much - Nancy
According to the rules they are operating under (which they can change ny time they want any way their whim takes them), unless you can PROVE it came in pre-cites, or after with proper paperwork, then the jack-booted nazi thugs (who are eating up budget dollars in a time of national financial crisis and war and terrorism alertness), can take you away. Period. Up to them. Don't expect them to be rational or fair. They have total power over their evidentiary rules, and the chief nazi in the white house is behind their total disregard for 'constitutional rights' unless it stops rich folks from getting richer. Good luck! Your fate's entirely in their hands. Don't believe people if they tell you, "oh, they'll only go after the big growers, or the importers, or they'll never...." remember, it's up to the USFWS and they can change their minds any time it suits them for no reason at all.

Tennis,
You really need some medication. Good gosh, Jack booted thugs, national financial crisis, chief Nazi in the white house, total disregard for constitutional rights????
Talk about intemperate over the top rhetoric. Come on, you're coming off as a loony. We are very much still a country of laws and no one is going to be thrown in jail without due process in the plant world. This is a perfect instance where we should all start complaining about this plant being on the list if it does not belong not hyperventalating like some nut job.
And don't forget....even the paranoid have enemies.
