Hi,
I have grown orchids under lights for many years. I use the cheap 4 foot
two light fixtures. I have them mounted two fixtures side by side to make a
four bulb lighted area. I have always used the cool white bulbs and my plants
grow and bloom great. Paphs, Phals, Cats even Ascocendas. Even Cymbidiums do well
but I put them outside in the summer. My Neofinita Falcata will bloom three
times a year under lights and only once in a greenhouse situation. I am sure
this has more to do with the sixteen hour days than the intensity of the lights.
I have seen a couple of papers on the web that point out the cool white bulbs
are quite satisfactory. If I had the room I would probably use a different
set up with the HP lighting. But I am quite happy with what I have. Just my two
cents worth.

Mike
