Sorry to differ with you, and here I think I am on firmer ground than with 8
foot tubes. I used to sterilize all my pots with bleach solution. The past ten
years or so I have been sterilizing the clay pots and metal stakes in the
self cleaning oven, which I believe gets to 700 deg. F.

Way overkill. Laboratory autoclaves, and also the pressure cookers used for flasking, get no where near that temperature. Nor do they need to spend all that much time at temperature. 300F for half an hour is more than adequate (probably also excessive) for all disinfection needs, including virus destruction - after all, they're just nucleic acids surrounded by protein. Should even take care of prions. Just imagine what your roast chicken would be like when cooked at 700F.
