I am not sure about paphs, but I can't imagine people not liking some of the
new red/pink hybrid phrags (besseae, schlimii, fischerii hybrids and
species). Many people I have talked to who said they did not like slippers
(including myself) finally fell for the red/pink phrags, which are closer
to traditional ideals of flower beauty than the green, brown, or purple
spotted paphs and phrags.

I don't know if there are mass producers of these plants. Over here in the
EU, the prices for paphs and phrags are rather high, compared to a phal
hybrid or a dendrobium (10 euros for flowering sized phal and dend hybrids,
20 euros for a flowering phrag/paph hybrid, species still higher priced--
this is already through direct nursery purchases, flower shops charge double
to quadruple). And from what I see, in the US, the prices are yet higher,
especially for select hybrid phrags.

Perhaps in a few more years, there will be a larger supply and a more ample
demand for them. As more and more people enter the orchid world through the
abundance of hybrid phals to be found everywhere, it means a larger base to
draw slipper-lovers from. To take a very wild guess, perhaps carnivorous
plant lovers like slippers better than the rest of us. :)

Good luck!
