The pollination of Ludisa discolor (as “Haemaria discolor”) was observed and described in detail by Ridley in 1896: “Orchideae and Apostasiaceae of the Malay peninsula”, J. Linn. Soc. Bot. 32: 213-416. The flower is pollinated by a butterfly, Pleisconeura asmara, which catches the pollinia on one foreleg. The same stategy is used in the genus Macodes.
