I do not think that light is the factor for keikis on P. lueddemanniana. I'm fairly convinced that temperature is the factor. If the temperature is above 28 C. then it produces keikis instead of flowers. I have seen on my P. lueddemannianas that all have nice flowers in winter and spring and in summer they produce keikis because of the high temperature.
In all of this, we have to watch out for the Post hoc, ergo propter hoc factor. 28 C = about 83 F. My plant hasn't been in that much heat since last summer, that I know of. Has anyone published any studies on the bloom triggers for the P. lueddemanniana group? I know they did it for the large-flowered Phals & the cattleyas.
What about daylength? My luedde. decided to make a keiki after I shifted it from the sunporch, with natural fall daylength, to the light garden, with 18 hour days. Anybody got a nice clone of P. pulchra to spare? Then I could run some experiments.
