I have two Phal honghensis plants, one on virgin cork oak bark (I got it bare-root, and it grabbed it right away) and the other (sent mounted) on a piece of cedar board.  Both are fine.

Subject: [OGD] under lights orchid mount

Hello all,
I was wondering if there were any of you who grow phal minus, honghenensis
and/or stobartiana under lights, who could tell me what they use for
mounting these orchids on? I have noticed that some of my phal species are
very fussy about what they are attached to, most likely because of the lower
humidity that is available under lights in the temperate Northeastern U.S.
in Winter. Air is dry because of electric heating, I do have humidifiers,
water underneath pots and plastic around. If I go too far with humidifying I
get mildew on ceilings near walls etc. when it is very cold out. I know that
some of these species don't like stale moisture around their roots during
their cooler/drier season (stobartiana) and would like input from others who
have mounted them successfully under lights. Comments for other species like
braceana, taenialis, parishii, lobbii (all of the miniature or small
species) are most welcome, including if you have tried to grow them mounted
under lights, and switched to pots of some sort with success. Also
interested in how you manage to get cooler temps. for the ones that like
cool Winters, or if you found they didn't need adjustment.

thanks for your help,
charles

phal sumatrana smells like mushrooms. phal venosa smells like charcoal
briquetts. anybody know if there is a species that smells like porterhouse
steak? thinking of creating a hybrid with the above to make a hybrid called
something like Phal Barbeque or Phal London Broil
