Sue,
My method for monitoring seed pods is to watch them for color changes, When the pod starts to turn yellow its time to harvest. Then put the pod somewhere cool and dry (air-conditioned homes meet the criteria) to finish ripening and shed its seeds. You can hang it in a jar with a piece of filter paper over the top to reduce the infiltration of dust and dirt and also cut down on seed being blown by the air circulation in the house.A Mason jar works well, you can even screw the ring on to hold the filter paper. Keeping the pod suspended improves drying and reduces the chance for rot.

Many thanks to Peter and Viateur for the excellent sources to find out the harvest dates for my Ansellia africana seed capsule. All listed were quoted from printed materials, so it seems that a comprehensive chart has not been made available on the Web. Pity... this would seem so useful world-wide, IMHO. Nevertheless, thanks again for the heads-up so I can keep a watchful eye closer to the harvest time.Sue in Tampa Bay, FL
