In regards to perlite discussion I have been using it for several years now and find it is working well for me. I do not use peat with it instead I use a 50/50 by volume mix of corse perlite and 10mm gravel this helps insures drainage air movement and the mix won't rot. Regular fertilizing is need though as the mix does not hold many nutrients. As with all things orchid everyones growing enviorment is different so its important to "read"our plants and adjust watering/fertilizing accordingly.
