In his book,
The Orchids, Natural History and Classification,
Robert L. Dressler published a map (fig. 2.3) with the following caption :
"Approximate numbers of orchid species in different regions of the western hemisphere..." (page 13).
For the United States (even if 'the northern areas are partly delimited on ecological rather than national boundaries'), the number given is 100 (excluding Florida) ; the number given for the number of species in Florida is also 100.
