I'd be wary of any ornamental plant, especially orchids with pseudobulbs,
offered for consumption.  The reason is that they probably weren't
cultivated for that purpose, but rather were purchased from someone who grew
them for their aesthetic value.  In which case the probability that they
have been hit at some point with a systemic cocktail of one kind or another
is not zero.

The upside of this equation is that you don't have to protect your orchid
collection from visiting grandchildren.  Just mention to the parents that
you just finished spraying with a nasty insecticide.  They'll take care of
policing the grandkids with new found fervor.
