Phals can successfully be grown mounted, potted in plastic pots or in clay pots, with, or without slots, and even in semi-hydro culture.  It depends on your growing conditions, your watering tendencies, and the medium you use.  Think of it in terms of the needs of the plant.  Phals, not having much in the way of water storage capacity, like to stay evenly moist.

If you grow in very humid conditions, or if you grow in a medium that REALLY holds water well, or if you prefer to water frequently, then there is no reason not to grow in slotted, clay pots.

Subject: [OGD] Phal in cracked pot

At the risk of having Iris roll her eyes, could you please tell my why one should not grow a Phal in a slotted clay pot?
