To the Orchids and celebs thread: The wife of the late USSR state- and party-leader Nikita S. Khrushchev had an orchid collection, and Khrushchev himself was to some extent interested in orchids. The late Dr. Gunnar Seidenfaden was Danish ambassador in Moscow 1959-1961 and became a friend of the Khrushchev family because of this shared interest. Seidenfaden and Queen Ingrid showed Mrs. Khrushchev some orchid collections in Denmark during an official visit in 1964. � Gunnar had a Russian gold watch with a personal greeting from Khrushchev inscribed on the backside of the case. I don�t recall whether he got this when he left Moscow or if it was a present in connection with the state visit in 64.
