Regarding Charles Bracker's reply to Steve Topletz;
a few points:
Stomates (sin. stomate) is a good English word, and
has been used appropriately. Pompous pronouncements on the use of English are
fairly unnecessary in the Global Village.
As will be seen, the use of italicisation on a
server that forwards only ascii text is impossible.
Mr Topletz's description of his technique coveyed
to me some of the speed at which this procedure was accomplished - meaning, to
me, that there would not have been time for any significant damage reaction to
set in between preparation and observation.
Scientific Method no longer has the clean bill of
health that people once assumed. Making the results fit the expectations, to
ensure continued funding, was its death knell.
Since Mr Topletz's "data" was (or is it "were";
"data" being plural) simply a single observation, it seems to me to be adequate
for the purposes of this Group.
Finally, regarding the "....I would close up as
tight as I possibly could, just to protect myself against the coming doomsday."
- my thoughts would be that the damaged guard cells, now incapable of doing
anything as a result of injury, would in fact relax after a while - thereby
closing the stomate.
