Viateur said that I should make a helpful post one day and so here it is:
Grammatophyllum scriptum may not do so well in a pot over period as in order to do well it needs to be able to develop its upwards growing 'catch roots'. That particular 'feature' of the species is severely constricted in a pot and therefore growing that species in a large basket is recommended. Then the blooms will develop!
The species is often found on trees overhanging the sea (like in ocean).

Thanks for the advice you offered regarding my honeydew-spitting Gram. scriptum. You have put my mind at ease as I know now these guys just do that. I am looking forward to some blooms from the two newest growths. The plant is pretty big already and is stuffed in a 6" pot so I know blooms are only a matter of time.
