In Papua New Guinea this species occurs in place like Manus island (only a 
very few degrees south of the equator) and it likes high light intensity to 
do well. You say that your growing conditions are hot and humid and that it 
what this species likes. In nature it can stand the full sun.If you only 
have one plant I would take it out of the pot and let it be free to roam and 
develop it's characteristic catch roots.

Hello -
Since this plant has come up for discussion, I have to
confess purchasing one this past weekend - it came
with a most attractive forming inflorescence very much
resembling an asparagus spear!
My research (before purchasing, weirdly enough)
indicates that this plant likes plenty of sun and
heat.
Can I solicit any more growing advice? No one else in
our local society seems to grow this, though two admit
to having 'lost' a plant. I should not like to lose
this one.
My growing conditions are mostly hot, humid, and I can
provide anything from full sun to deep shade.
It is now in a 6" plastic pot, and does have a solid
root mass, but nothing I'd call a 'trash basket',
though that sounds pretty enticing.
