news story :

"on the campus of the University of Wyoming ... someone walked off with ...
A rare orchid ... stolen from the UW botany department's ... greenhouse conservatory March 31.
...delicate hybrid... [unnamed]
...
"It's a very beautiful plant," said UW Police Sgt. Anthony Johnson. "I'm a gardener myself, and of course the colors of this particular plant are brown and gold, and it's that time of year where it can just catch someone's eye. We've pretty much ruled out the possibility that someone might have borrowed it and forgot to leave a note."

It can happen to you...

When I started growing orchids, I bought a division of Cattleya Froth (a most reluctant bloomer) from someone who was presumably trying to contribute to my interest in orchids...

I hanged the potted plant outside and one morning it was gone...
My most 'generous' friend sold me another division which never bloomed for me (I later learned that he had also been unable to have it bloom for him...).
I gave it to a friend who finally had it flowering.
