Thanks to Bert Pressman for his advice on how to conduct a Google search.
Of course, depending on the words one chooses to write in the search box, one can get results varying in both quality and quantity. On the internet, one can find all the variations from trivial to relevant results. It is not the quantity of results obtained through Google that makes the information accurate.
I am looking for scientific information about the use of chlorine to sterilize used clay pots. In other words, scientific analysis of the effectiveness of chlorine in sterilizing clay pots. I would certainly like to read articles written by Bert or other scientists on that subject.
Bert, thanks for the reference to an article published in the J. Aquatic Animal Health.
Among the 500 pages you found with Google, did you find
1) any article about the efficacy of hypochlorite as a desinfectant against viruses affecting orchids ?
2) any article dealing with sterilizing clay pots using chlorine ?
*********
About the solution quoted in my post ("CLEANING & STERILIZING CLAY POTS"), Bert concluded that I advocate it. In my post, I wrote :
"So far, I have always sterilized clay pots in an oven.
Apparently, the 'liquid solution' might be as efficient."
Thanks for the warning about the 'vinegar effect' and the need for good ventilation.
Bert also wrote : "seems assured that adding vinegar to the hypochlorite prevents build up of crusts".
I quoted the solution and certainly appreciate any comment, including yours.
Even if I have the utmost respect for "life experience", I certainly like to read comments based on scientific arguments.
As Bert once wrote : "Many orchid enthusiasts pass along various unsupported cultural myths as if they were divine revelations of truth. Their zeal is not diminished by the hearsay nature of their advice."
Best regards,
Viateur
