Although this is not to deny that your observation is true, it doesn't mean that the viruses and spam are intentionally targeted at you. The increased nuisance is simply the result of the fact that your e-mail address is more exposed, now that it regularly shows up in the Orchid Digest mailing list and, probably, is kept for future reference in address books of other subscribers to the list (from which it may be harvested by computer viruses). What has worked really well for me is the use of MailWasher (for which see http://www.mailwasher.net/index.php). In short, this program checks the availability of e-mails at your e-mail server and while doing so, discards any messages that appear to be spam after comparison with a so-called DNS Spam Blacklist Server - this, before they are actually downloaded to your computer by your e-mail client. In addition, the user has the option of erasing or bouncing messages that he or she does not want to receive. I have been using this program since a couple of years now, and not only did I get rid of more 90% of the daily dose of spam, what's probably even more re-assuring is that my anti-virus software hasn't detected a single virused e-mail ever since.

Various people have been getting a virus and spam . I am the next one. Although I got negative input when I said that viruses, spam, etc, started up again after I had joined the list last time, I can now tell you that my suspicion was right. Again, since I have returned to
the list I get an highly increased number of virused messages and spam of all sorts.
Hoping this helps,
