Despite contentions that Orchid Taxonomy is too arcane an art for us
amateurs, our orchid experts continue to delve into areas in which they lack
expertise, specifically Linguistics. When Vandopsis parishii was reassigned to the
genus Hygrochilus, was any sex surgery involved?
Dear Bert, do not forget that Latin and Greek is no prerequisite for
studying Biology (inkl. Botany). Over her
Latin is a prerequisite for English, History, Art History etc.
The Latin was forced upon us .....
What would happen if a
Vanda, an Ascocentrum and a Hygrochilus, all of which are interfertile, felt the
urge to reproduce intergenericly? Who would do what and to whom? Why are
Dresslerias feminine? Is any slur on Bob Dressler intended?
Ask the person who described the genus why he/she did not use the term
"dreslerium"
So don't put the blame on the taxonomists again.
