"The province [Manitoba] set aside 820 hectares of a chalky wetland just
north of the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation as an ecological reserve on Friday.
The traditional territory, known geologically as a "calcareous fen," south
of Lake Winnipeg has long been known as the home of medicinal plants...
known to grow in the wetland ... 28 of the province's 36 native orchid
species... The new reserve will be named the Brokenhead Wetland Ecological
Reserve."
