While we're on the subject of hybrids, there is something that has
always puzzled me. If man hybridizes species A and B, the f1 generation is
50%A and 50%B. If the two populations exist closely enough in nature to
form hybrids, the original f1 generation would have probably
been interfertile with A & B and would
further hybridize with A, for example, to form new hybrids, e.g., 75%A
and 25%B. Eventually we get a swarm of hybrids with variable
contributions of parents A and B. How do we designate the relationship
between such hybrids and the man made one of 50%A and 50%B and express the
fact that they may have the same parentage but variable contributions from each
parent?
