I would like to second the comments about audiobooks while working in the greenhouse. I never go out there without my iPod - now if I could just input to my orchid database with the iPod all would be easier!
The second great invention is nitrile gloves, not so much protection from poisons but protection from the ravages of the clay pots and wet hands for hours at a time. They are much sturdier than the latex gloves commonly used and provide just as good tactile handling properties. Around here they are about $3.50 for 15 gloves (why an odd number I have never figured out).
