Australia has lost one of its most respected amateur botanists with the
sudden passing of Ron Tunstall last Saturday 29th October 2005 at the age of
55. Ron was a Research Associate with the National Botanic Gardens in
Canberra, Australia and had discovered many new terrestrial orchid species
and contributed to the range extensions of many others. He had a keen
interest in all plants and nature in general. For many years he lived in the
Wollongong district, and in recent times moved to Wauchope on the mid-north
coast of New South Wales, where he spent much time in the bush with his best
friend John Riley (the illustrator of "Orchids of Australia" fame)
Pterostylis tunstallii (now Bunochilus tunstallii) was named after Ron.
