I also grow and bloom Oeceoclades roseovariegata successfully, but I
have killed two Oeceoclades spathulifera plants. Despite having
killed two of them, I'm not sure why. The plants simply shed their
leaves, and then the pseudobulbs shrivel. In contrast, O.
roseovariegata grows very vigorously and blooms reliably in December.
I wonder if the two species come from different environments in
Madagascar.

While we are on the subject of xerophytic orchids, I have a question
about Eulophia petersii. My plant bloomed this Spring, but then it
never produced a new growth over the summer. The plant appears
healthy, and there seem to be plenty of viable "eyes" at the base of
the pseudobulbs. Is this typical of E. petersii? I wonder if
producing that 6 foot inflorescence was such an energy drain on a
relatively small plant that it requires a while to recover. I have
started withholding water for its usual winter dormancy and am hoping
that it starts a new growth next Spring.
