As far as I know PPm is still available, see http://www.kitchenculturekit.com/PPMwebsite/PPMinformation.htm As with most antibiotics or biocide/fungicides, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. My experience is that you need to play around to find the optimum dosing rate. For sowing I use typically 2 to 4 ppm prior to sterilising the media. For contamination of existing plantlets I recommend you read the relevant aticle on the webssite. Jean www.jeandewitte.de
>Hello Peter and all, > There is or was a product called PPM sold by Phytotechnology Labs at >http://www.phytotechlab.com that is a broad-spectrum biocide that can be >used against bacteria and fungi. I checked my catalog (issue 2004-06) that >lists technical information (instructions) for the product on page 149. It >is listed as product number P820 on that page. I tried to find it on their >website by looking at product pages and their search engine but couldn't >find it listed. Maybe somebody who orders from them would know if it is >still offered and if it worked as advertised. It is listed as being able to >remove contamination in culture, and if you take the explants out, sterilize >them and then place them back into culture. I haven't used it so don't know >if it works or if it is still available, but if you've spent alot for a rare >plant it might be something worth trying. >Hope this helps, >charles >-- >Charles Ufford >Oriskany, NY USA >IPA, Central NY and Southern Tier Orchid Societies >Http://www.cnyos.org >Http://www.geocities.com/charlesufford > _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
