I have had some success spraying with 70% rubbing alcohol.  It takes
repeated treatments but is otherwise "friendly" as far as I know.  Another
treatment I tried was with Melaleuca Tough and Tender.  I sprayed it on at
the recommended dilution for cleaning.  The scale fell right off and the
leaves looked nice afterwards but I think it dries them as I do sometimes
get leaf drop after treatment.  My experience is limited so if you want to
try either of these treatments, I would recommend just spraying a couple of
test plants that you can spare.
