I need some help with a Cymbidium ensifolium that I own. One of the new growths
(which is starting to form its pseudobulb) has recently begun to develop small
brown
spots along the edges of the leaves. The growth isn't rotting, so I'm fairly
positive
that I haven't gotten water in the developing leaves. I can't tell whether the
damage
is from too much sun (it's in a west-facing window--northern hemisphere--and
only
receives direct late afternoon sun for a couple of hours a day) or from a
bacteria
or fungus. The spots aren't regular in shape (that is, they aren't perfect
circles).
Odd as this description may appear, it looks like the new growth has been
spattered
with tiny flecks of dirt. All of the other growths (i.e. the mature ones) have
beautiful
leaves without any kind of spotting). I don't use any kind of chemicals to treat
my orchids, but I'm almost willing to break my own personal rule and enlist
chemical
help as a last-ditch effort to keep the ugly spots from spreading (or worse,
destroying
the growth). Any advice from those of you who have experience with Chinese
cymbidiums
will be greatly appreciated.
