Greetings all,

I just got back from a four-day trip through South Florida where I
visited many of the sites my dad and I used to hit on our weekly
treks through the swamps. I was heartsick to see what's happened out
there. In a full day, we only saw a total of four orchids and we
really had to work hard to find those. What's more, we often found
ourselves surrounded by dozens of other people, including big
families that thought going into the Everglades would be like a trip
to Disneyland. Everyone was just jabbering away (many on cell
phones), loudly wondering where all the animals were.

On a high note, we saw many more birds than back in the "old days"
(including lots of wood storks and roseate spoonbills). Gators were
everywhere.

So here's my question: Does anyone out there have photos, slides or
home movies shot out in the Glades during the 1950s, '60s or '70s? We
used to shoot lots of 8mm movies, but when my folks moved from Miami
to Ocala, the box they were in mysteriously disappeared. Please
contact me offline if you have anything that shows what things were
like back then. I'll explain why it's important when we hook up.

Thanks in advance!
Jim
