Mike,

I hear that in many places now, municipalities use a chlorine chemical that
does not get removed from the water by letting the water sit overnight. So it
may not apply in all cases, but I am no chemist.

Regards,
ST

Mijo730> Hi Charles,
Mijo730> I just read your note about chlorine
Mijo730> bothering your orchids. I used to
Mijo730> live in Las Vegas and their water has so much
Mijo730> chlorine it would actually make
Mijo730> your eyes water right from the faucet. However it
Mijo730> never seemed to bother my
Mijo730> Phals. The excess calcium in the water was really nasty though.

Mijo730> Chlorine is a gas and dissipates from the water very quickly. If
you are
Mijo730> putting it in a barrel to heat it up I think just
Mijo730> adding a small aquarium air
Mijo730> pump with a bubble stone will clear the chlorine
Mijo730> from the water very quickly.
Mijo730> I am not a chemist so this is just a laymans two
Mijo730> cents worth. I do grow many
Mijo730> phals and chlorine has never been a problem.

Mijo730> Another suggestion is one of the inline water filters you can buy
from
Mijo730> Lowes or Home Depot or someplace similar. They have
Mijo730> some that are just a charcoal
Mijo730> filter which should remove the chlorine very nicely. Either of these
Mijo730> suggestions is much cheaper than an RO system. Also
Mijo730> remember with an RO system you
Mijo730> will need to add back all of the minerals that you have removed.

Mijo730> Have a great day,

Mijo730> Mike
