It consists of two coins featuring the hybrid orchids... Vanda Tan Chay Yan and Aranda Majula. 8,000 sets of the $5 silver proof coins are issued at the price of $133 per set. 3,000 sets of ez-Link cards featuring the two orchid species have also been minted, and they are being sold at $38 per set. Also, there are 1,000 pieces of the 2-in-1 $5 silver proof coins and ez-Link Card Set which are being sold at $178 per set. The peach-coloured Vanda Tan Chay Yan is considered one of the most outstanding hybrids produced in Singapore... The hybrid is named after rubber plantation merchant... Tan Chay Yan... Vanda Tan Chay Yan was awarded a First Class Certificate... by the Royal Horticultural Society of the UK, at the Chelsea Flower Show in England in 1954. The Aranda Majula is a fragrant flower... Majula means 'let's prosper' in Malay and the hybrid has won two international honours... In 1973, the Orchid Society of South East Asia awarded the Aranda Majula the High Commendation Certificate. In 1993, the Aranda Majula won a White Rabbit at the 14th World Orchid Conference in Glasgow. Singapore is one of ASEAN's top producers and exporters of top-quality orchid flowers, with approximately 15% share of the world markets in orchids.
