I doubt seriously that the greenhouse, per
se, was the problem. It was more likely your culture combined with the
specific conditions. Mine is doing great in a greenhouse.
Keep in mind that some species - this one
included - live in wide ranges of conditions, but that does not necessarily
mean that an individual plant is tolerant of the entire range.
Maybe yours came from the cooler end of
the spectrum while mine was warmer...

Maxillaria luteo-alba seems not to like greenhouses.. I have had
one for
five years sulking in a medium/warm greenhouse.. For three years
now we (my
wife does most of the job) keep it in the living room during
winter and
outside during the (Dutch..) summer. Now it produces fat bulbs
and eight
buds on a bulb this year.
Maybe it is too
conservative to think all orchids are greenhouse plants. Do
any of you know
other orchids that seem to do better outside then in a
conservatory or
such?
