Excerpt from Paphiopedia:

Signs of their presence are holes in plant parts, flowers especially,
thin glistening slime trails and pieces missing of the plant.

Chemical Treatment: Iron phosphate, Metaldehyde

Home Remedy: Fresh potato slices left on top of media overnight, or
spread yogurt will attract them. They may then be disposed of in a
light butter sauce at 350'F. Beer, Salt, Copper, and Diatomaceous
earth are unlikely to work.

Bettina> Hello everyone,

Bettina> after losing my greenhouse 2 1/2 years ago I am
Bettina> forced to grow my collection mostly outside. This works
Bettina> reasonably well here in the favorable coastal California
Bettina> climate. Unfortunately I am now threatened by extinction due
Bettina> to slug domination.
Bettina> I have been fighting the good fight, staying away
Bettina> from highly toxic methods so far, using mostly Sluggo (as
Bettina> well as picking and squishing with much delight) diligently
Bettina> to battle the slimy pests, but to no avail. I just can't get
Bettina> a handle on the increasing damage. For example, I have not
Bettina> seen any Masdevallia flowers in over a year now as the buds
Bettina> turn into prime slug food immediately after appearing. Even
Bettina> freshly repotted (after thorough cleaning) plants that I
Bettina> moved to a separated location get attacked within a day or
Bettina> two. (And, of course it is always the one fresh new growth
Bettina> that gets attacked over night, setting the plant back another
Bettina> season.)
Bettina> My plea for help: Is there anything "more vicious"
Bettina> that I can use to at least get my collection back to ground
Bettina> zero in terms of slug infestation? If I can't find a solution
Bettina> I am faced with losing all my Masdevallias as well as a good
Bettina> part of the rest of my plants.
Bettina> Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Bettina> Thank you!
